An Unusual Real Pediatric and Adult Skull Mounted Science Display

Very unusual scientific or artistic display with a real human pediatric skull and a real human adult skull. This is a very old preparation and I am not certain if it was intended to be scientific or artistic.  Both skulls are real and both have the back of the calvarium cut.  The adult skull is missing the back piece of the calvarium, the pediatric skull is not.  

This specimen was likely used for anatomical study and is now a retired educational/artistic model.
